So you want to make your own biodiesel…
I knew I was hooked when I took my first sip of a liquid I realized could power a car, was clean enough to drink, and that I could make myself for less than a dollar a gallon. This was also back in ’03, when the Iraq war was starting, and I found myself getting excited about the idea of making my own fuel as one thing I could do to remove myself from supporting the petroleum economy. Making your own fuel is revolutionary in the same way as getting your food from local farms; in both cases you’re relying on local sources instead of mega-corporations. It’s even more fun when you get together with others and form a fuel-making coop with everyone gathering oil from local restaurants, as I did three years ago with the Dirty Hands Biodiesel Coop. Whatever your motivation, whether you are doing it by yourself or with others, making your own biodiesel fuel can be a rewarding activity. But there are some things to think about. Going Green is Not As Hard As You Might Think
By Anita Burnett
Going Green is not something that happens overnight. It’s a laid out plan on how each and every one of us must think green whenever we can.
Gone are the days when you left it up to the other guy. You and I are the other guy. Start Simple. That’s the Plan. Included are some small steps that you can take that don’t cost anything (other than effort).
The key to going green is to take it slow. Most people have given some amount of thought to living a more environmentally friendly lifestyle, but frequently become overwhelmed as where to start so they delay taking that first step.
Success is obtained by forming a plan that can be executed over time. Try to make one or two changes ever 30 - 60 days so you allow it to become habit before taking on the next steps. For anything to become a “habit” you must repeat the step for up to six weeks. Then it becomes natural, and you do it without thought.
It’s like learning to turn out the lights when you leave a room or turn off the TV that no one is watching. Read the rest of this entry »
Think Green

Think Green
By Ron D Obed
“Think green” is not just a saying anymore it is real and will continue growing throughout the new decade. As our energy bills keep sky rocketing and our uncertain economy keeps us guessing, the one fact remains we cannot ignore our energy budgets. We must act now, and act fast. There is hope. We have choices, and going green is the right choice. The choice we all must make, what better way to start than by thinking green, right in your own home or office.
Most people still want to reap the benefits of living a modern lifestyle, where the use of consumable energy enhances and betters our lives. After all we don’t want to have to go down down to the river to wash our clothes, or run to the nearest well for our drinking water.
To be classified as “Thinking Green” should mean a willingness to take measures into our own hands. We most continue to do our part to stay below what the average consumer uses for energy consumption.
Making use of currently available and soon to be discovered technologies provides alternatives for the everyday consumer. Does having a green home or office really matter to the environment? Read the rest of this entry »
What Is Better For The Environment Then The Electric Car? An Electric Motorcycle
Posted by admin in General News on November 24th, 2009
By Frank Strider
We are all aware of the fact that the earth is warming up and people all over this planet are trying their best to preserve some of the resources nature has given us. At the same time we are doing the best we can to reduce the damage we have done to the earth.
You do not have to be a believer in global warming or a scientist not even think of your own conspiracy to see that it’s important we don’t use up all of earths resource as if they would never dry out. Emitting Carbon dioxin causes damage to our ozone layer which can’t be repaired. This simple fact is one of the most used reason by people to choose a vehicle that is fuel-efficient the next time they by a new car. And there are people who know that you can get much more miles from a gallon of gasoline when you buy a motorcycle.
Although riding a motorcycle really does save a lot of gasoline and thus helps a lot in preserving the resources of this earth, there is an even better thing to do. Why not buy an electric motorcycle? That would be a fantastic choice if you want a method of transport that you can rely on, that saves you money and also saves the resources of this planet.
Advantages
Yes the initial costs of an electric motorcycle is often higher than a motorcycle that runs on gasoline but they have a lot of good things going for them that really makes it worth the initial investment. The longer you ride on one of them the more money you save, because fuel costs alone is far cheaper then with a gasoline motor, it is about one-tenth of cost.
They are also (almost) silent and extremely friendly for our environment because of the fact that no gas is emitted at all. No dust particles that get in to the air. And as they use electricity you will not be seeing a gas station again you just need to plug it in at home to charge the batteries. Read the rest of this entry »
